The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) is a newly established in the University by virtue of BOR RES. NO. 50-07, s.2019. It formally existed and was launched last June 2020. The college was formerly known as the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

Prior to being CAS, it was named as School of Arts and Sciences per BOT Resolution No. 97-11-08-22-007. Since then, the college had grown vastly in terms of curricular offerings, enrollment, teaching force, facilities, research, extension, and others.

In 1999-2000, the School of Arts and Sciences was renamed into the College of Arts and Sciences with three (3) departments, namely: Mathematics Department, Sciences Department, and Languages & Social Sciences Department. Later on, the Languages & Social Sciences Department was further separated into the Department of Social Sciences & Humanities and the Department of Languages and Literature by the year 2014.

With the offering of curricular programs AB Sociology(2012), BS Social Work (2017), and BS Psychology(2018), the field of specialization in social sciences had grown much in terms of its students and faculty members. Hence, by 2019 the proposal on separating CAS into two new colleges (CHaSS and CMNS) was presented and approved.
